Artbank Perth Client Evening
Perth clients recently had the experience of meeting with local artists in the Hyatt Hotel’s mezzanine rooms, home of the Artbank Showroom. Guests were intrigued with Joanna Lamb’s discussion about her quirky Deco House Interior (see image right). Artbank had recently purchased the cool realist painting and questions were pitched around the idea of what a ‘flat’ painting could mean in terms of the ordinary and the extraordinary while other guests queried the accuracy a reflection in a mirror poses in a painting.
Pithy questions were also asked of Galliano Fardin who entertained guests with talk of life on the land in Veneto, Italy, while in front of his popular mixed media work Landforms. He discussed the lengthy gestation time for creating works, before getting to the point where they become physically realized, a process not always commensurate with the commercial requirements of the art world. Fardin also talked about how Artbank’s purchases of his work had propelled his career, often at times when it most needed it. It was indeed a rare chance for clients to engage with Artbank artists.
Artbank Director Geoffrey Cassidy welcomed clients and newcomers thanking them for weighing up the night’s competition (Simon and Garfunkel, Wil Anderson and the Paul Keating lecture) and choosing Artbank’s event. The crowd included gallery directors Seva Frangos, David Forest, Julian Goddard, Mark Walker, Janis Nedela and artists Jorg Schmeisser, Luke Sullivan, Helen Geier, Michael Kutschbach and Simon Cuthbert. It was also a pleasure to welcome Margaret Ainscow, Artbank’s West Australian Board Member, who added glamour to the evening with her fantastic David Walker jewellery.
